Line 194 Ceske Budejovice - Nove Udoli

12-D-1208
The Ceske Budejovice to Nove Udoli line runs through some of the most attractive scenery in the Czech Republic as it winds its way through the Sumava (or Bohemian Forest), an upland area with hills, forests, rivers and lakes and a favourite with tourists from all over Europe. In summer a number of passenger services were operated by class 749 diesels until the class 754s took over in 2012. Class 751s still appeared on local freight traffic into 2012.

Line 086 Liberec - Ceska Lipa

This is one of the most scenic lines in the Czech Republic and has numerous good photo positions, particularly at the Liberec end. It doesn't see many loco hauled trains these days but it's not that long ago that there were 12 loco hauled fast trains and a couple of locals every day. The line is a scenic delight and it's worth suffering the long waits to photograph the trains that do run.

Line 037 Liberec - Cernousy

The Liberec - Cernousy line is a good place to photograph diesel hauled freight trains. Liberec depot had the last concentration of operational class 753 diesels in the Czech Republic and they were kept busy hauling freight on the route from Nymburk via Mlada Boleslav, Turnov and Liberec to Zawidow in Poland for almost a decade after the class disappeared elsewhere. The 753s increasingly gave way to pairs of 742s but class 753.7 rebuilds took over most workings in 2010. The line climbs through an attractive hilly landscape before dropping through the forests to the picturesque Smeda valley.

Line 025 Dolni Lipka - Hanusovice

Since the demise of the Praha - Jesenik passenger service this scenic line has become even more of a rural backwater. At least there's still a pick up goods at the west end of the line.

Line 071 Nymburk - Mlada Boleslav

The Nymburk - Mlada Boleslav line is one of the busiest non-electrified freight routes in the Czech Republic. In addition to through traffic to Poland via Liberec and Zawidow, there are many trains to or from the giant Skoda car plant at Mlada Boleslav. It’s not the most scenic route in the Czech Republic but there are a few decent positions.

Line 032 Jaromer - Trutnov

Against the trend, this line has seen an increase in loco hauled passenger workings in recent years. The fast trains are worked by class 754s but for a year or so there weren't enough of these engines available and class 749s appeared on some workings. Like the Mezimesti line, the south end of this route is fairly featureless but there are plenty of attractive locations between Ceska Skalice and Trutnov.
