A group of chickens were feeding on the ballast near the crossing, oblivious to the rapid approach of QJ 7012 on an eastbound freight. A couple of seconds before the loco roared past, one of the chickens hopped over the rail into the path of the oncoming train. The unfortunate bird can just be seen to the right of the loco's brake pipe as it met a premature end. No prizes for guessing what the crossing keeper had for dinner on 10 September 2005.
