Jixi Chengzihe Mining Railway

Dongchang at Dawn

Situated just a few kilometers north of Jixi city centre, Dongchang was the hub of the Chengzihe system as well as being the site of a working mine. We found SY 0237 shunting empties there at sunrise on the morning of 6 March 2005.

In a country where steam locos often go for scrap after less than 20 years of service, it was good to see SY 0237, built in July 1970, still going strong after almost 35 years in traffic.
