Business as Usual?
We attempted to visit Huanan in November 2007 but found the line temporarily closed closed due to a lack of diesel fuel for the loading equipment at Hongguang. In 2008 the problem was the closure of the mines following a safety inspection. We rearranged our itinerary at the last minute and managed to catch the final few days of operation before the coal stocks ran out.No.043 was photographed on the long climb from Tuoyaozi to the summit with a train of empties just before midday on the 16 November 2008, our first day on the line.
