Spreader
Spoil is dumped from trains on the tips and initially lies in piles beside the track. When enough spoil has accumulated on any particular tip, the spreader comes out. This device is like a snowplough but with adjustable paddles that are used to push the spoil outwards over the edge, making room for the next few trainloads. Eventually, the spoil deposited will form a surface high enough, wide enough and solid enough for the track to be moved onto it, extending the tip outwards. JS 6436 posed with the flanger near Xibolizhan before going to work on the afternoon of 13 November 2005.
